Professional Division Membership

Membership in the Professional Division is available to suitably qualified individuals and to organisations. Professional Members play an important role in the work of the Institute, bringing practical expertise and professional pespectives and providing fresh sources of ideas and insight to help illuminate our scholarly and academic missions.

 

 

Categories of Membership

 

Alumni membership

Alumni Membership is available to:

 

• Those who have been awarded an academic degree by the Institute;

 

• Former resident faculty and staff who have served not less than five years (full-time) or seven years (part-time) and whose separation from the Institute was not a result of disciplinary action or discharge;

 

• Resident faculty and staff who have retired from the Institute but who do not hold Emeritus status within the Academic Division.

 


INDIVIDUAL MEMBERSHIP

Professional Membership is available to any interested person possessing the following qualifications:

 

• A Bachelor's (honours) equivalent degree or other higher degree from a recognised university or other institute of higher education;

 

• Not less than five years previous full-time experience in a professional field in an area primarily touching maritime transportation or international trade;

 

• Personal recommendation by a current member of the Institute or a prominent person in the maritime transportation or international trade sectors.

 

CORPORATE membership

Corporate Membership is intended as a form of pro-bono sponsorship to support the important work of the Institute.

 

Any company or other organisation engaged in study or practice within the maritime or international trade sectors is eligible for corporate membership upon written application and acceptance by the Professional Division.

 

Corporate Members may nominate two individuals as representatives at the Institute and benefits are limited to these nominees unless otherwise agreed.

 

AFFILIATE MEMBERSHIP

Affiliate Membership is offered to individuals and organisations supporting the work of the Institute.

 

The terms of benefits and access of Affiliate Members are set out on a case-by-case basis.

• Free admission to lectures, symposia and other sponsored events.
