Welcome to the

Institute of Shipping & International Trade

Building on an centuries of maritime tradition in East Anglia, the Institute of Shipping and International Trade (ISIT) was established in Norfolk as a regional centre for interdisciplinary research and academic study in the shipping and international trade sectors. The primary aim of the Institute is to support and facilitate scholarly research and academic study of the maritime industry within the context of global trade. The Institute provides an independent forum for scholarly research and coordinates financial and technical support and affords various research and educational facilities and resources to educators, scholars and qualified postgraduates.

An important part of our our work is to serve as a liaison between academia and the wider maritime and intermodal shipping communities. The Institute has longstanding links with regional producers and manufacturers, shipping interests, ports and port authorities, freight handlers, charterers, insurers, shipowner associations, P&I clubs, coastal and waterways agencies, and governmental and intergovernmental bodies. Working together with affiliate institutions and trade bodies, the Institute is committed to the development of East Anglia as a premier global trading hub in its own right and to position the constituent community with direct and independant access to international trading opportunities.

WORLD-CLASS RESEARCH

Quality research is the Institute's hallmark. Our professional research staff afford comprehensive support in research design and development. Researchers have access to a diverse network of affiliate institutions, colleges and universities, research libraries, professional associations and industry resources, together with access to state-of-the-art computing and network facilities.

GLOBAL PERSPECTIVES

The Institute seeks to promote global perspectives and a highly adaptive response to the challenges of 21st-century international shipping and trade practices. One of our core beliefs is that the free exchange of ideas and harmonious trading relations are essential precursors to peaceful and stable relations between peoples and nations.
